Phase 1: Insight and ideas
In the first phase of the project, the focus is on informing citizens about AI in a way that matches their interests and living environment. This information is also used to find out what citizens want to use the technology for: what is their idea?

Insight
Since the initiative primarily targets citizens who show little to no interest in artificial intelligence (see about amai!), amai! has a strong thematic approach. We always start with the domains of mobility, work, health, and climate and environment to inform about AI.
The activities can be divided into the following types:

The activities can be divided into the following types:
- Activities aimed at the general public. These activities are usually planned in collaboration with libraries, training institutions, or are given for civil society organizations, governments, or companies that want to introduce their employees to the theme. These are lectures, data walks, knowledge markets...
- Activities focused on education. With these activities, we try to strengthen teachers in their AI lessons. Teachers also receive teaching packages to address AI in various ways
- Presence at events focused on popularizing science. At large events aimed at popularizing science, amai! has a playful, interactive stand that provides a broad audience with insight into AI.
- Presence in the (mass) media. In collaboration with media partners aimed at a general audience, amai! brings the AI topic to the fore in an accessible and nuanced way. This includes a series of items on a radio program or a collaboration with a popular newspaper.
Ideas
It's crucial for amai! that citizens not only gain insight into AI but also get the opportunity to share where they believe the technology should be used. In this way, amai! is not just an informative project, but also an initiative that maps out the challenges Flemish citizens want to address with artificial intelligence. The inventory of over 1000 ideas for AI developments serves as a starting point for the project call. This collection of ideas either happens analogously at the end of an activity or through the amai! platform.
When asking for ideas, we start from the specific interest of the citizen in one of the amai! domains (health, mobility, work, and climate and environment).

- The platform. The heart of the amai! initiative is the online platform. Here you can find stories about AI, citizens can leave their ideas, the ideas of other citizens can be found, it has updates about the amai! initiative appear... The platform also plays a central role in the project call (see the next phases).
- Media campaigns. Large-scale media campaigns in collaboration with established media partners (VRT, Mediahuis) inform the audience of these media about AI and direct them to the amai! platform and activities.
- Civil society organizations. In amai!, the focus is put heavily on specific domains. Therefore, there's a strong emphasis on non-profit organizations and citizen movements that are active in these domains. We have compiled a list of organizations that are active in the fields of health, mobility, work, or climate and environment. They are especially encouraged to make use of the amai! offerings
Idea clusters
All ideas were grouped thematically according to the societal domains around which amai! works: health, mobility, work, climate and environment. Subsequently, similar ideas were brought together into 35 clusters
